MediaTek announces a new 5G chipset, Dimensity 720

Consumers were expecting Mediatek to make a major announcement in the last few weeks. The company has finally announced its new 5G enabled chipset, called the Dimensity 720. The chipset is efficient and has also been priced much more affordable than the chipsets in its category. The chipset has been built on a 7nm manufacturing process and has an octa-core CPU that consists of 2x Cortex-A76 cores and 6x Cortex-A55 cores coupled with a Mali-G57 MC3 GPU.

The chipset can be paired with LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. The chip is specifically designed for mid-range smartphones and is one of the first from the company in this series. The chipset will be aimed to provide much smoother performance with better battery life.

The chipset has not been made for high performance or gaming but has been created for a more balanced usage. The user will be able to get adequate performance for day to day tasks, with better battery life. The 5G capabilities of the chip support the sub-6GHz standard.
