Get Ready for the Motorola Edge 40 Series: Latest Leaks and Rumors

Motorola has recently announced the international variant of its flagship phone, the Edge 40 Pro. The company is also releasing a toned-down version of the phone called the Edge 40. Both phones have IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. While the Edge 40 is powered by the MediaTek 8020 SoC, the Edge 40 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 820 Gen 2 chipset. According to SnoopyTech, the Edge 40 Pro is priced at €899 (approximately $970) in Europe.

The Edge 40 Pro is designed with a 6.67-inch FHD+ pOLED screen with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, offering a 165 Hz refresh rate. It is expected to have up to 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and run Android 13. The Edge 40 Pro also boasts Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection on both sides, an aluminum chassis, and a 4,600 mAh battery. It also supports 125W fast wired charging, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The flagship will come in Quartz Black and Angel Falls color options.

The Edge 40 is also a potential choice, with a 6.55-inch FHD+ pOLED screen and a 144 Hz refresh rate. It boasts 5G compatibility and sports a dual-camera configuration on the back, sporting a 50MP primary camera with OIS and a 13MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view. It also has a 32-megapixel selfie camera. It is powered by a 4,400 mAh battery with 68 W fast wired and 15 W wireless charging. The Edge 40 is pre-loaded with Android 13 and MyUX 5.0 software.

Motorola has gone with 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage for the Edge 40, with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM onboard. The base model of the Edge 40 will be sold in vegan leather and PMMA acrylic options, while color options include magenta, eclipse black, lunar blue, and nebula green.
While the exact release date for the two phones is still unknown, leaks suggest it will be soon.

Microsoft Quickly Addresses Image Security Vulnerability in Windows Screenshot Tools

Microsoft has taken swift action to address the ‘Acropalypse’ bug, which we reported on earlier this week. The bug allowed information cropped out of images using Windows screenshot tools to be recovered. According to BleepingComputer, Microsoft has issued an out-of-band (OOB) update, designated CVE-2023-28303, to fix the issue. The company recommends that users apply the update as soon as possible.
The process for applying the update is simple. Users can go to the Microsoft Store, click the Library icon on the left, and select Get updates from the top right. This will prompt the patch to be applied unless it has already been automatically installed.

Similar to the vulnerability that affected the Markup feature on Google Pixel phones, compromised images and screenshots cropped in the Windows 11 Snipping Tool and the Windows 10 Snip and Sketch tool. Specifically, parts of a PNG or JPEG image that had been cropped out were not correctly removed from the file after it was saved again. These cropped sections could contain sensitive information like bank account details or medical records.

It is important to note that applying the patch will not fix any files that have already been cropped. Users will need to recrop existing images to ensure that excess parts of the picture have been appropriately removed.

While the ability to recover cropped-out parts of images may not initially seem like a significant security vulnerability, it can be problematic. Tech journalists, in particular, understand that personal information such as email addresses, bank account numbers, and contact names must be cut out of pictures before sharing them widely on the internet. With so many of us sharing our photos with others, it is crucial from a security perspective that these images only reveal what we intended, which was the issue with CVE-2023-28303.

Although Microsoft has acted quickly to test and apply the fix, it is concerning that this same bug has appeared separately in software from Microsoft and Google recently.

Leaker Claims iPhone 15 Pro Max Will Break Record with Thinnest Bezels

The screen borders of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the thinnest of any smartphone, beating the current record holder Xiaomi 13. This is according to the well-known leaker “Ice Universe“, who has previously released precise information regarding Apple’s plans.
iPhone 15 Pro versions likely have narrower, curved screen edges than the iPhone 14 Pro, giving them a look akin to the Apple Watch. The larger 6.7-inch model will have minor screen edges if the leaker is correct.

Ice Universe tweeted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would break the Xiaomi 13’s 1.81mm screen edges record. The black screen edge on Apple’s future generation will be only 1.55 mm. Ice Universe compares the screen edges of the iPhone 14 Pro (2.17 mm) with the Samsung Galaxy Ultra S23 (1.95 mm).

As per Ice Universe, this alludes to the Xiaomi 13’s bottom edge, or the leaker meant 1.61 mm, as seen in the image above. We have requested confirmation and will post an update if we receive it. In any event, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s screen margins should be significantly thinner.
