It would be not new to hear that hackers have tried to affect the WhatsApp application and have tried to steal the data of the users. The popular messaging app has been under constant threat from cybercriminals but the app has managed to safeguard the data by every means so far. Recently a new vulnerability was discovered in WhatsApp where the hackers used an image filter bug in the app. Although the flaw has already been fixed by WhatsApp, the users will have to make sure that they have the latest version of the app for the fix.

The bug that was discovered by CheckPoint Research, allowed the hackers to access the personal information of the users. The bug allowed a maliciously crafted image to create a bad effect on the user’s device and allow access to their information. The vulnerability was activated when the users applied an image filter in WhatsApp, which gave hackers access to WhatsApp memory. The bug was found in the WhatsApp version prior to v2.21.1.13 and WhatsApp Business for Android prior to v2.21.1.13.

The flaw was revealed to the company on November 10, 2020, but has now been made public to everyone.
