There are two ways of purchasing the phone, either get it on a complete down payment or simply get it on credit through EMI’s from a finance creditor like a bank. Earlier this year, Google published a “Device Lock Controller” app on the Google Play Store which allowed the credit providers to stop the functionality of the phones that were financed and the payments were missed. The app was initially launched in the US market where it was a mandate for carriers or first-party stores that were offering finances on the purchase.

The provider can download the creditor’s app and “Disable debugging and user management features” that presumably could be used to circumvent these measures. The app does not restrict users from dialing emergency calls or receiving incoming calls. Meanwhile, the user can access the full Settings app at any time, as well as back up and restore your data. It is still not clear as to whether the app will be pre-installed or will be installed at the time of purchase when the users decide to buy it on credit.

The apps do not have a lot of downloads for now, but it would seem to become a mandate for such financed phones in the future. Also, the apps were introduced in June this year with the last update for the app made available in October. The Phone when locked will allow the users to backup and restore data and user settings as well. However, to unlock other features once again, they will have to clear the missed payments.

When it comes to the Photos app on the Android and iOS devices, Google Photos has been one of the most popular ones in its category. It is a handy app that stores all your photos and arranges them in certain categories, which makes it easier for the user to browse them. Till now, the app and its features have been completely free, but now it seems that the users will have to shell out some money for extra features in the app. As per a report from XDA-developers, some of the existing as well as new features in Google Photos can become paid and only available to Google One users.

During the teardown of the new Google Photos app, XDA-developers found that the app has Google One Paywall which may be introduced in some of the editing features. The Color Pop feature could be one of them which would require you to pay. A report with screenshots also stated that users trying to use Color Pop were sent push notification by Google for Google One subscription. It might be possible that the future update from Google would bring in new editing features for the Google Photos app, which would only be reserved for Google one subscribers.

Currently, features like Color Pop are available to all users and anyone can use it for free. However, as a part of the ongoing rollout, the Color Pop feature will become paid for some photos and free for others, depending on the depth information of the photos. It is not yet clear when the feature and changes will be rolled out globally.

Apple facing a severe shortage in the supply of Power chips for the iPhone 12 series.

Apple has received a tremendous response for the iPhone 12 series in terms of pre-orders, which was already expected by Apple due to which they increased their iPhone 12 production by 2 million units earlier. However, it seems like the increasing demand has led to a shortage of vital chips that manage the power consumption in the iPhone 12 series. It might lead the company to be unable to meet the demand for the iPhone 12 in the market during the holiday season.

Despite the shortage, suppliers are likely to prioritize Cupertino, California-based Apple, and its power-hungry iPhone 12 over other customers lining up for scarce parts. The increasing demand for silicon and supply issues due to Covid-19 have been the main cause of shortage in the supply. As per the details, the 5G smartphones require 30% to 40% more chip content versus 4G, and the industry is still recovering from the pandemic and lockdown, due to which the supply is unable to meet the demand.

YouTube video

Apple currently has multiple power-management chip suppliers, and due to this, an issue in one of those chip suppliers could affect the company. The company has also not been able to meet the demand of Chinese consumers and has recorded the worst quarterly revenue performance there since 2014. Since the Chinese market has companies like Huawei and Xiaomi, which are the major competitors, it seems like Apple will be losing a big slice of the market share to these companies in this case. Currently, the company is trying to cope up with all the demands until late November.

One of the most popular services for users nowadays is podcasts and streaming services which have attracted a lot of users over the years. When it comes to companies like Apple and Sony, they have been particularly interested in acquiring podcast companies. Recently, Apple Inc. and Sony Music Entertainment have been holding talks about acquiring Wondery, one of the most popular podcasting services.

As per the details Wondery is seeking to get 300 to 400 million dollars from the deal and the negotiations for the same are ongoing. Apple and Sony are two of the four companies that have been discussing acquiring Wondery. In recent years, Spotify Technology SA has been one of the most aggressive buyers of such a podcasting platform, however, this time Spotify is not going to bid on this deal. Although there is no guarantee on whether the deal for Wondery will be completed or not. Also, the price tag of $400 million is not something every company will be willing to pay, since the podcast industry is still rising and not at its full peak of success.

Although, Wondery has many podcast projects that will soon be turned into a television series, and it could really increase the value of the company. It is already developing more than a dozen TV shows based on its podcasts, including a program for Apple about the rise and fall of WeWork. Apple has already acquired a lot of smaller podcast companies in the last couple of years and acquiring Wondery would be a significant investment for them in the podcast industry.
