Google has recently rolled out a new update for its Photos apps in which the users will now have a much better and more powerful editing tool. Google had been making a lot of visual changes to the photo editing tools and did make a few statements on how they will be improving the in-built photo editing apps with more options and many powerful tools. Now the new feature update will come with smart suggestions and easy-to-use granular adjustment. These new improvement features will not only make editing the photos easier but will also allow the users to make more modifications in terms of color, saturation, and overall look of the photos.

Google has also added a new tab in the editor that uses machine learning that provides the user with suggestions about the photo they are editing. Since it is based on machine learning, the suggestion given will be very particular to the specific photo you will be editing. The suggestion can be implemented in one tap and does come with stunning results, which would make the editing job much easier. You will simply need to do a single tap, rather than changing all the settings by yourself. Now, you will find it much easier to apply granular edits, like brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, and more.

Also, the new version of the photo editing app does make the user quickly scroll through the option to get what they need or find new options. Google has also launched a new Portrait Light mode in new Pixel devices which improves the lighting on the face when you try to take a portrait in low light.

In the past few months, Google has been experiencing a lot of bugs and vulnerabilities in the android apps that have been posted on Google Play Store. Due to which it has been regularly removing a bunch of apps that are found behaving malware. Recently, Google Play Store removed 17 such apps that were infected with “Joker Malware” and is used to steal important and banking information from the user’s phone. Vulnerability is highly sensitive and Google now is looking for security engineers to find these vulnerabilities and remove them.

The main focus of the new group of security engineers will be on fake Covid-19 contact tracing and election-related apps. The latest job posting by Google explains that the new team will perform reverse engineering, technical security assessments, code audits, and design reviews of third-party Android applications and libraries. Google said that there is no such thing as a safe system and its security team is constantly working to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google’s users and developers.

This security team will also be allowed to proactively find the bugs and fix them automatically. It will allow for quick action which is much better for a safe app environment. Since the number of infected apps on the Google Play Store has increased recently, maintaining safety is one of their primary concerns. To make sure that the bugged apps do not increase on their platforms for removal, the new security team has been assigned to scan the apps for any issues

Google might have delayed the policy implementation in India where the app developers will have to give a mandatory 30% commission on in-app purchases, but it seems that many Indian companies and startups are thinking about an alternative for Google Play Store. Having different App stores for android could definitely provide a very tough competition to other app stores as well. Now Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the founder of Paytm has announced that they will be launching a mini app store for Android smartphones where the developers will have fair competition and freedom.

The decision was taken in a video call meeting that had some of the most known Indian companies like Paytm, Razorpay, etc, and many Indian startups. In an official statement by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder & CEO of Paytm, it has been said that “I am proud that we are today launching something that creates an opportunity for every Indian app developer. Paytm Mini App Store will empower the young Indian developers to leverage our reach and payments to build a new and innovative service.

For Paytm users, it will be seamless and does not require any separate download that is required to enable the preferred payment option. Mini apps are actually a hybrid between website and app, where it is lighter than a regular app with the same functionalities. Paytm is currently offering no feed for developers. There is a service that has already joined the services like Decathlon, Ola, Park+, Rapido, Netmeds, 1MG, Domino’s Pizza, Freshmenu, No Broker, and many more. It would be great to see the growth of this new mini-app store until Google’s 30% commission policy is applied in April 2022.

Google Play Store delays a mandatory 30% commission policy until April 2022 in India.

A few days ago Google applied a new change in their Play Store policy which pushed the developers to give a 30% commission cut for every in-app purchase through their app. The change in the policy was not taken in a good way by the Indian digital community and many known names and new startups grouped together to find ways against this problem and also to find an alternative to Google Play Store. These companies also stated their concern to Google as it could seriously harm the growth of new companies and developers that have just started and paid 30% would not be good for their growing business.

Now, as per the recent news, Google is postponing the enforcement of this policy on Playstore until April 2022, which would ease the norms for app developers again. The change came after more than 150 startups in the world’s second-largest internet market forged an informal coalition to express concerns over the 30% charge the Android-maker plans to mandate on its store. Google says that they have been meeting up with Indian Startups to know more about their concerns and how they could be resolved.

YouTube video

They will also be setting up Policy Workshops to help the startups clear any doubt and questions. Due to this, the time has been extended for App developers in India to integrate with the new Billing system from Google. Also, it would provide them enough time to implement UPI for subscription payment options. It’s not just the startups that showed concern over Google’s new policy, but it was also some of the known companies like Paytm, payments processor Razorpay, Dream11, ShareChat, and business e-commerce IndiaMART.

Google drops Daydream VR support with Android 11.

Daydream VR was one of the VR divisions from Google which was discontinued last October from the market. Now, Google has made a new announcement that it has dropped the support for the Daydream VR platform with Android 11. Therefore, it means that it may not work with devices running Android 11 or later. It makes this very clear the Google Daydream VR will not receive any update in terms of software not but third-party VR apps may still be available for the user through the Play Store platform.

It was really surprising when Google discontinued the Daydream VR last year and there were multiple reasons for it. Google said that it did bring much interest to the customer and they were losing interest in it as a product. Secondly, the developer adoption of this was decreasing over time and there were not many new features that were developed over time. Google also thinks that it is the best time to invest their resources in AR rather than VR and AR would be something they would be working on in the future.

YouTube video

Since Google has shifted its focus officially to AR now and has closed the doors for VR, users having the Daydream VR will be really disappointed. Now it would be interesting to see the kind of platform the company develops with AR and how it will be used to bring out exciting consumer products in the market. However, for everyone who was a fan of Daydream VR, this really comes as bad news.

IoTeX introduces Ucam, powered completely by blockchain.

IoT is one of the largest concepts and more and more companies have been using these concepts to offer newer products to the customers. In similar events, IoTeX, which is a CA-based open-source platform in Silicon Valley, wants to extend the concept of IoT and bring its vision alive for the Internet of Trusted Things. For that, it is using blockchain technology. Security products like NEST and RING have made consumer awareness of the use and importance of security and privacy devices these days.

The company has partnered with Chinese company Shenzhen, and have together made Ucam security cameras. Now what makes these security cameras different is the use of blockchain technology to operate it. Ucam uses blockchain, end-to-end encryption, and edge computing technology, which allows the users to control, own, share, and use videos captured by the device. Ucam computing is done locally without the need for centralized servers. It is something not available in any smart security cameras till now and they need to be connected to centralized servers all the time.

YouTube video

With corporations having access to decrypted data through normal security camera devices, they have complete access to our home videos. It is one feature that UCam is much better. It is a user-owned, uncrackable private key, which prevents the two most common types of camera hacks today: brute force password hacks and cross-pollination of data breaches. It uses a combination of blockchain, edge computing, and end-to-end encryption to ensure privacy for users using verifiable technology.

The Phone will be equipped with a 6.65-inch screen, which will have 1080p+, and will be an AMOLED display.

The screen will also come with 144Hz of refresh rate, which is the best feature for a gaming phone. The screen would be faster, snappier and the user will get a better response time in-game. The Phone also has a selfie camera that pops up from the side. Microsoft Surface Neo launch delayed to 2022.

Microsoft Surface devices are some of the best available on the Windows platform and the latest expected device from the company was Microsoft Surface Neo. On October 2, the company announced four new surface devices for consumers to buy, Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Duo, and Surface Neo.  While Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop 3, and Surface Duo are now available for purchase for the users, Surface Neo has been pushed back to the launch again in 2022. It seems to be a very big gap between the announcement and the launch of the product.

Surface Neo is one of the most expected devices by the consumer and with the finalized version of Windows 10X coming in Spring, the device was highly anticipated for launch. However, it seems that the device is facing some performance issues with the emulation of the Win32 app. With the new dates that have rumored up, the device can come up in Q4 of 2021 or even in early 2022. Another bad news for Microsoft fans is that the company is not planning to launch any kind of dual-screen device in the next year and one can only be seen in 2022.

YouTube video

This delay may be due to the finalizing of Windows 10X for dual-screen devices. Now when you visit the website page of Microsoft which listed Surface Neo, it has now been deleted and the page is redirected to Microsoft Home Page. There are multiple reasons suggested for delays, such as health and economic crisis, and even Windows 10X compatibility issues. Although the launch of the product has been delayed, it is unlikely we will see the product with the same hardware specs.
