After the release of CyberPunk 2077, which was one of the most awaited games for the year, we saw some really great reviews for the game and immense happiness among players that were playing it on the new generation of consoles Xbox series X and PS 5. However, at the same time, we also saw a lot of disappointment from the Xbox One X and Playstation 4 users as well, where the game had blurry gameplay, choppy and laggy gameplay, and a below-par gaming experience. It did seem like the game was certainly not built for previous generation consoles. Due to which it leads to a huge disappointment among the gaming community.

Now after the share price plummeted yesterday by over 50%, developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) had an emergency conference call with investors earlier today, to look at what had gone wrong. CDPR business development SVP, Michal Nowakowski was now forced to admit the company had focused on building the game based on the latest generation of the console which was the Playstation 5 and Xbox series X. As per their official statement, “It is more about us looking – as was previously stated – at the PC and next-gen performance rather than current-gen, we definitely did not spend enough time looking at that

I wouldn’t say that we felt any external or internal pressure to launch on the date – other than the normal pressure, which is typical for any release. So that was not the cause.” The developers state that they were under huge pressure to release the game by this year as it was one of the biggest launches for this year in the gaming industry and due to that they were still working on the game till the very last moment. However, Google has claimed that the performance of the game would be much better on their Google Stadia platform and it seems that the game is best to be played on the new generation of consoles for the best performance.

Google Photos to get a new feature called 3D Cinematic photos

Google has been trying to add a lot of new features to Google Photos lately and recently they have announced another feature that will be a part of this platform. The new feature is called Cinematic Photos which will automatically create a new 3D-like effect on some of your captured images. The feature will work in the Memories section of the app and you will find the Cinematic photos in the most recent highlights at the top of your photo grid. The features have been made to make you relive your memories in different ways and to experience them once again.

It uses machine learning to predict the image depth and produce a 3D representation of the scene. It also works on images that do not have depth information in the original version. After the depth information is processed, the feature will animate the virtual camera for a smooth panning effect, something similar to what is being added in the movies. The feature will be rolling out gradually to all the Android users in the next month.

Once activated, you will also be able to share these images with the least taps. Google Photos will also be adding a new collage design to the app with richer, and artistically designed layouts. Using the machine learning process, memories will now also feature some of the most important people in your life and show your favorite things like the sunset, cooking, riding, hiking, and much more. You can also hide certain people and time to be not included in the memories.

The new iOS 14.3 update brings more privacy features and shows how apps use your data

iOS 14 was one of the revolutionary changes in the history of iOS which brought more emphasis on how the apps are using the user’s data and device. It not only provided more control to the users but also made them aware of the usage of hardware and software that the apps use to capture the customer’s data. Now, this feature was not taken in a good way by advertising companies and Facebook as well as it would severely hamper their advertising business. Now, Apple is going to bring in yet another feature in the market with iOS 14.3, which might make things a little more difficult for advertising companies.

The new iOS 14.3 update has introduced a new App Store labeling feature that gives the users the way to see what data an app collects about them before they choose to install it. Apple did inform their developers last month that they need to include the privacy details by December 8 or they will not be allowed to update their apps. These privacy labels are required for apps on all of Apple’s platforms including iOS, iPad OS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. Also, these labels need to be updated and accurate every time there is a new update from the developer for the app.

A question was raised by Facebook-owned WhatsApp that the same rules did not apply to iMessage which is not on the App Store. The privacy labels in iOS 14.3 are broken down into three categories: “data used to track you,” “data linked to you,” and “data not linked to you.” Now, “data used to track you” is the data used by advertisers to target relevant ads, “data linked to you” is the data used to identify the users, and “data used to track you” is used for location data and browsing history of the user. Malaysian App Store already has many such apps that have implemented the new policies.

M1 powered Mac beats the Windows operating system on Microsoft Surface Pro devices in performance by a large gap

After Apple launched their M1 chipset, everyone knew that the company will now be looking to outperform any other OS based on the Intel chipset and would certainly make a considerable jump in the future. With the help of the new M1 chipset, Mac machines are now able to beat almost all the other Macs with the Intel processors. However, what about its comparison with the Windows operating system. In a recent comparison review, PCWorld compared Microsoft’s Surface, Pro X, with Apple’s new M1 MacBook Air, and the result does seem to be expected but also surprising. We all know that Windows runs on ARM-based machines but is not as commonly available to the users.

Microsoft’s Surface, Pro X is one such device that is powered by an ARM chip that was created by both Qualcomm and Microsoft. Now the major problem arose in the operating system where Windows only allowed running 32-bit X86 software and was not able to emulate the 64-bit apps. Apple got rid of the 32-bit apps in 2019 with macOS Catalina and introduced Rosetta 2 technology for M1 Macs. Now every software created for Intel Macs into an ARM binary runs better on Apple Silicon-based computers. Microsoft did release a beta version of Windows with emulation for 64-bit X86, but the performance is far behind those of Mac powered by M1 chipset.

Another video processing test showed that a Mac with an M1 chip took 23 minutes to process a 12-minute 4K video to a 1080p H.265 format and the Windows tool took 2 hours, which clearly shows the difference in the performance. Therefore, even with the number of improvements Windows have been getting this year, it is still far behind from M1 chip powered Mac and also the scores of M1 powered Mac on Geekbench is way ahead of that of Windows, even when emulating Windows on Mac.

Xbox and Playstation are facing some serious restocking issues this holiday

As soon as the Xbox series X and Playstation 5 was launched, the company expected a lot of pre-orders and sales later ahead. However, both the companies are now suffering through a bad restock problem due to which the customers are unable to buy the latest gaming consoles. That is not the only problem they are dealing with right now. Black marketing of these consoles along with issues in the delivery from e-commerce websites like Amazon also created havoc among the customers when they were unable to receive the console on the day it was meant to. Both the companies assured people that they will be restocking the consoles before the holiday to have plenty of stock for people to buy from.

But it seems that as the holidays are getting closer, the re-stocking issue is facing a downfall. The re-stocking is happening almost every day for these consoles with the primary stores being Best Buy, Walmart, Sony Direct, and the Microsoft Store. It should have solved the problem, but as soon as they are getting restocked, they are being sold out in minutes. Therefore, customers are still not able to get their hands on the new console as readily as the companies want to. The only option left now is the e-commerce website where they might get the chance of buying one, but even these websites are facing the same issues of re-stocking and delivery as well.

Issues in the UK were reported at the early launch where the customers received cutlery in the box instead of the console and in some places, the delivery was shown as completed while the customers did not receive it. Now people are expecting to get their hands on the consoles during this holiday but the current scenario does not seem to be as pleasing and it can be expected that the situation might get better till January 2021.

Cydia accuses and sues Apple of anti-competitive on iOS app distribution

It seems like a problem for the App Store from Apple is not coming to a close. Apple has already been facing Antitrust issues in many countries where they have been accused of giving an advantage to other developers’ apps and also promoting their own apps instead of third-party developers. The company has always been emphasizing on the fact that they have been trying to give equal opportunities to the apps on their platform without any loss in competition among them.

Now Cydia, who is a popular distributor for jailbroken devices before Apple launched App Store, filed a lawsuit Thursday against Apple in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging Apple uses anti-competitive practices to assert a monopoly over software distribution on iOS. As per the lawsuit, Apple has eliminated all the competition in the app store market and also claims that Apple has tied App Store to iPhone purchases by pre-installing it on all the iOS making it the default option for the users to download the iOS apps.

As per the official details in the lawsuit, “Apple has wrongfully acquired and maintained monopoly power in the market for iOS app distribution, and in the market for iOS app payment processing. Apple has frozen Cydia and all other competitors out of both markets, depriving them of the ability to compete with the App Store and to offer developers and consumers better prices, better service, and more choice.“” Similar to this Epic Games brought a similar lawsuit against Apple accusing them of unfair practices and anti-competitive claims.
