Western Digital is known globally for being one of the best brands when it comes to digital hard drives for computers. The company has been one of the best and has excelled in providing a storage solution to its users. However, it seems that the company is coming up with a new kind of service, that might not be preferred by everyone. The new service is the “Monthly Subscription Program” and is an exclusive scheme by WD. As per the details mentioned on the website, “For a low monthly price, you can keep your files and data stored on a drive of your choice, and upgrade your storage whenever you want“.

Now there are three different types of subscriptions you can select from. It is a 1TB Sandisk ibi Smart Photo Manager, and 4TB and 8TB My Cloud Home personal cloud storage devices, for a monthly fee of $5.99, $9.99, and $17.99 respectively. Apart from this, there are three different storage solutions that you can opt from, that is basically external storage, outright for $99.99, $179.99, or $279.99 respectively. Now the thing that users need to know is that the cloud management system is free when you purchase the personal cloud storage solutions.

Also, you will have to use the devices for almost 18 months to use their value of services. It seems that the company is trying to set up themselves in the category of cloud management after having success with hardware storage. The subscription services do not seem that enticing but with some improvement, the company can really mark their step in the world of cloud storage.

Apple has already been working on the new design for their devices and it seems that the design schematics for the iPad 2020 has already been leaked. The new design schematic of the iPad 2020 shows a lot of improvement over the previous generation, both in hardware and design. Also, the new iPad might look a lot similar to the iPad Pro. It might also take some inspiration in terms of features like the Magic Keyboard support, just like iPad Pro. But this is just the scratch of what Apple will be doing with their new iPad.

As per the details, the new eighth-generation iPad will be much slimmer than its predecessor and will have thinner bezels as well. The iPad will have no Touch ID sensors but will have the new Face ID sensor. The new iPad will also be integrated with dual speakers and a USB C connector, which could indicate the addition of fast charging technology and inductive charging. The new iPad design schematics also show a single camera on the back as in previous versions. The great news for iPad users and fans is that the new iPad model could be launched in the month of September.

The overall design change and support for the magic keyboard show a major design overhaul from the last generation. It is suspected that this version of the iPad may be launched with the new Apple Watch 6 and the 8.5 inch iPad mini 2020. However, we will have to wait for the official announcement for the same.

Samsung has now confirmed that the launch for Galaxy Z Fold 2 will take place on September 1, in the Galaxy Unpacked event. The event will discuss all those features in-depth with the audience and how it will create a unique experience for them. The unpacked event will start at 10:00 am (ET) / 7.30 pm IST, where the company will discuss one by one about the new hardware and how it will support the new features in the smartphone. The live stream event will be broadcasted on Samsung’s global website. New Apple Airpods Pro Lite to have “in-air gestures”.

A lot of information has been leaked about the new Airpods pro, which Apple is already working on. The same could be launched or unveiled at the Apple event, which is due to happen in October for the launch of the all-new iPhone 12. Recently, Apple has been awarded a new patent, which could turn out to be the new feature in the upcoming or future models of Airpods pro. The new patent brings in a feature where the true wireless earbuds could be controlled using “in-air gestures“.

The patent that has been given to Apple was detected by Patently Apple, and it describes how the in-air gestures could work with the already provided touch controls. Although the patent does not provide any technical information about the feature or any kind of gestures that could start or stop a specific function, it could easily guess that moving the hand over the earphone in a certain way would help the user to control features like Play, Pause, Skip, Next, etc. The feature uses capacitive sensors to detect the proximity of the user to the AirPods.

The following explanation was given in the patent for the feature, “a capacitive sensor may be incorporated into an enclosure of the wearable audio device and used to detect a capacitance between an electrode of the sensor and the user“.

As the user moves toward (and optionally presses on) the enclosure, the capacitance changes. This change (or absolute value of the capacitance) may be used to determine the position of a user’s finger relative to the enclosure.

There is no information on when the feature will be added to the AirPods pro, but definitely be a lot helpful for the users when touching or voice controls are not a possibility. Another version of the Airpods pro model called the Airpods pro lite might also see the addition of this feature.

Apple terminates Epic Games account from App Store

Another twist has come into the war story between Epic Games and Apple App Store. After being ordered by the district court not to remove the developer account, Epic saw it as a partial victory, but the court continued to support Apple over the removal of Fortnite until Epic Games did not follow App Store norms. Now in a major step, Apple has terminated the account of Epic Games from the App Store. The Apple team said to Techcrunch that “We are disappointed that we have had to terminate the Epic Games account on the App Store. We have worked with the team at Epic Games for many years on their launches and releases“”.

Although Epic has been on the App Store for a very long time, the App store did mention that the game developers were constantly adding updates to the game, which violated the rules of the App Store. After the Epic Games account was removed from the App Store, the next big question was about the apps that used the Unreal Engine, and one such highlighted application was PUBG.

On the other hand, Apple has blamed the Epic Games of diverting customers to Apple Care, especially those who are frustrated due to the Epic games ban. The next big thing in the fight would be about popular apps like PUBG, which is one of the most popular game apps on the App Store and uses Unreal Engine in its game. It seems like the fight between the two will bring a lot of new things for the users.

Apple might not include any accessory with iPhone 12.

Over time, the price point at which the iPhone is being launched has been increasing. Even then the popularity of the product has never gone down. Apart from their iPhones, Apple has been making a big amount of money through its branded accessories, which are highly-priced because of its quality. Until now, the company used to provide a few basic accessories with its phone, which would basically be the charging wire, power brick, and wired earphones, along with some stickers and manuals.

However, this time it might not be the case. It is rumored that iPhone 12 will come without accessories in the box. The details have been provided by TrendForce which states that iPhone 12 will be priced higher than iPhone 11’s launch price and will have no accessories either. It was earlier expected that the company will be providing an all-new 20W fast charger along with the iPhone 12, but the details seem to be proven wrong. The information that the iPhone 12 might not have any accessories in the box was in the air since last month.

The price hike in the new model was already expected due to the new 5G hardware the company has to add on. However, it was also confirmed that the company is replacing some pats with a more affordable option to bring down the price. But not adding any accessories seems to be out of place. Also, it would certainly boost the accessory business of Apple, where the sales are definitely on increase from the last few years.

Windows Terminal is all due for a change in look and features with a new update.

Windows Terminal or popularly known as Command prompt has been one feature in the operating system through the years that has never changed. However, it seems that the company has finally brought an update that would bring a few interesting changes to the old classic command prompt. The new version of the Windows terminal is 1.2 and brings new features like Command Palette, Focus mode, and Always-on-top mode. The command palette allows the users to bring up and consult a handy list of command options, which makes it easier for users to access certain commands faster, especially those which are used more regularly.

Another feature in the update will be the Focus mode, which will maximize the window and conceal the taskbar, so that the only thing you see on the screen is the command prompt, which makes it easier for the user to focus on that, without the distraction of any other window. Lastly Always on the top mode prevents other windows obscuring the command-line program. These are some of the main features that you will be able to experience in the new command prompt window. Apart from that, there are a lot of other minor tweaks as well.

Microsoft also included the ability to toggle a “retro terminal effect” that replicates the blurry-edged aesthetic of old CRT displays. However, it is not a permanent feature and might be excluded from a future version. However, this experimental feature still looks very cool and brings out the old retro look to your modern machine. It will now allow users to swap between multiple profiles like Command Prompt, PowerShell, WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux), and Azure Cloud Shell. and would also provide the feature of the addition of tabs. Microsoft has also launched a preview build of Windows Terminal version 1.3, which has Command Palette activated by default, allows the user to change color for tabs via the settings pane, and switch between them more easily.

Xiaomi to bring under-screen camera technology to its phone from next year.

Recently, Xiaomi unveiled that they have successfully built the third version of their under-screen built camera technology and it will be available next year for commercial mass production. Now the company has announced that the new technology will be perfected even further and will be brought to their new lineup of phones by next year. Xiaomi is certainly not the first company to work on this technology however, they have made it clear that they will be the first one in the market to use it commercially in many of their smartphones.

The front-facing camera in smartphones has seen many changes over the years. From covering a big chunk of the screen, to be limited to a punch-hole design, the front camera will finally vanish from the front screen, providing the user with a complete screen to body ratio. The company claimed that they have been working on the technology for many years now and the first and second version of the tech was only good enough for representation and not to be used for a practical purpose.

However, the third version for the same has been tested to perfect workout in smartphones in our day-to-day and practical life. As discussed before, the camera will be hiding behind the glass, which will look like a screen. when the camera app is activated, the pixel in front of the camera will dissolve, making the camera visible. When the user shuts down the camera app, the screen pixel will reappear to make it a part of the screen. It would be really exciting to see Xiaomi using the technique on its new range of smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Fold has been one of a kind foldable phone in its category and a lot of users appreciated it for the design and functionality. However, due to the very high price point of the smartphone, not many users were able to get their hands on it. Now the company has launched the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 2 smartphone, which is a costlier and better successor to the Galaxy Fold. However, it is still not under a price tag that many people would prefer to buy. Samsung does understand that and it was long rumored after Galaxy Fold, that the company is looking to build a more affordable foldable device for Samsung users.

Now a new device has surfaced, code names SM-F415F, which is expected to be the affordable foldable smartphone that consumers were expecting from Samsung. The Galaxy Z Fold Lite, as people are calling it right now, but is not the official name, would appear to be a cheaper and more affordable version of Galaxy Z Fold 2 smartphone. It is also expected that the launch price of the device will be much lower than both the foldable device launched till now. The model number has also been spotted on some of the support pages for Samsung which confirms the Lite version of the foldable smartphone.

The rumors speculated that the affordable version will have the Snapdragon 855 chipset, but will not have 5G connectivity or Ultra-thin glass layer to cut down on price. There are a lot more features that we can see removed in the handset and the price could be expected to be somewhere around $1,100, which will be way less than the original Galaxy Fold and Z Fold 2. There is no official announcement or details about the phone from the company yet, but we can expect the company to announce the device by the end of the year.
