Apple purges 39,000 apps from the Chinese app store

The Chinese version of the Apple App Store has been looking at some serious cleaning for the last few months. Since the Chinese App Store is one of the biggest app markets for Apple, they have to comply with the Chinese government and remove any apps which are not allowed as per the rules. Apple has been purging and removing a lot of apps from their App Store for the last few months and recently, they have reported one of the biggest single-day surges from the Chinese App Store.

It has been reported that Apple removed almost 39,000 games from its Chinese store in just a single day. The apps which run without a government license in China are not allowed to be hosted on the Apple App Store. The reports came in from Reuters where they estimated that a total of 30,000 apps from the Chinese app store had been removed by the end of June. Only 74 of the top 1,500 paid games remain after yesterday’s purge, and among the games affected are Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Identity and NBA 2K20.

The major problem has been for apps under the gaming category, which are not allowed to work without a government license. As per the rules, app developers have to get the Chinese ISBN number from the government—a process that is nigh impossible unless foreign developers team up with a Chinese publisher before launch. This will lead to an estimated loss of $340 million in sales for Apple as most of the games on its platform are already licensed.

OnePlus has been working on a smartwatch model for a long time and this has not been a hidden fact, as the company has been revealing a lot of details about their device development. The smartwatch was expected to launch alongside the OnePlus 8T, but the company finally made it official that the smartwatch has gone back to development and might take a while before the launch. Now, as per the latest details, the company will first be introducing a new and affordable fitness band, to begin with before they introduce the smartwatch.

The smart band is expected to launch somewhere in Q1 of 2021 and will be priced at an affordable rate of $40. The fitness band for Xiaomi is expected to have an AMOLED screen and will be water-resistant with multi-day battery life. It is also expected that OnePLus might be adopting the design of the fitness band based on what Oppo offered in June last year. Since both of them share the same manufacturing facility, it would be a lot faster and cheaper for OnePlus to adopt the same design.

If it takes the same features from Oppo smart band, then you can expect the OnePlus smart band to have a 1.1-inch screen along with 12 sports tracking modes and many other features. The only features that lack in it are the non-availability of GPS light build quality. It is expected that OnePlus would launch their smart band covering all these shortcomings. If the smart fitness band could launch at $30, then it would give serious competition to all the other products.

Recently, the company has started testing a new feature on their carousal where the users can see videos from Instagram and TikTok. It can be seen in the dedicated carousel in the Google app for mobile devices. As per a report, Google has been trying to index such video content for years now, and “It’s not clear to what extent it has any formal relationship with Facebook/Instagram or TikTok.”

As per the official statement from Google “The feature is currently available in a limited way on the Google app for mobile devices and on the mobile web. The new dedicated carousel for Instagram and TikTok videos expands on a test-launched earlier this year.” In the test run, the company introduced a carousel of “Short videos” and a personalized content feed to present relevant content. These short stories are distinctive from webs stories and similar to Instagram stories.
