Apple has been facing a lot of criticism and antitrust issues lately when it comes to the App Store, the app availability, and the pricing that they have set for the developers. The issue came to light after the big fight between Apple and Epic Games over the App Store fees. It seems that Apple is trying to mend things and the image of the App Store now by simply reducing its fees for some developers. This would only include those developers who are earning less than $1million in revenue annually.

The App Store Small Business Program will come into effect after January 1 and will see a fee reduction of 30-15% for the developers that qualify for this. The decision will give more advantage to small app developers or someone who is relatively new to this. As per Apple, the decision will impact a large number of developers on the App Store and new developers which join in 2020 are automatically qualified for it. While the older developers will have to apply based on their revenue in the year 2020.

As per the experts, the change will affect 98% of the companies that have their apps on the App Store, but the revenue will be impacted by less than 5% Apple gets the major revenue from the other 2%. The change was certainly expected from Apple after the case with Epic Games, where other developers were also expecting a sort of relaxation in the commission fee. Now it would be interesting to see how developers react to the decision in the future.

When it comes to Smart TV, every company has accepted that it is the next big market for every tech company as the consumers are increasingly getting more interested in purchasing one and creating an environment where all their data is connected. During the last couple of years, many new and old companies have already jumped into the market and have released their own version of smart TVs. Now, Bang & Olufsen’s new Beovision television range has a new smart TV as an offering, the Beovision Contour, which is a 48-inch OLED TV and is one of the most beautifully crafted and created TV you will ever see.

The smart TV is the second in the market after LG to have this type of display in a Smart TV and is something people expect from a premium brand like Bang & Olufsen. The TV has been described by the company as an “all-in-one TV and music experience“, as it features the new audio technology from B&O’s first-ever soundbar with improved bass performance, the Hostage. There is no mechanical nature to the speakers, or the ability to fold up the TV stand when the set is not in use.

Playstation 5 has seen a large number of pre-order as soon as it was available for one. Where the gaming console was limited to availability for certain countries on November 11, it became globally available to all the users on November 19. As expected the pre-order went in high numbers on websites like Amazon, which was expected to arrive at the customer’s place on November 19. However, as per reports that are coming in, multiple UK based Amazon customers have claimed that their Playstation 5 has not arrived and is still showing as delivered.

Other claims say that the boxes are either empty or are filled with utensils. This would not be a new case with e-commerce websites, as issues like these have been happening rarely with customers. However, when it comes to pre-order of Playstation, this is certainly a new case. A customer in the UK claimed that the order shown as missed despite no delivery was made and when she received it, it was an air fryer instead of a Playstation 5. Another customer received a coffee machine and foot massager. Some users even received animal food instead of the new gaming console.

As per the claims of one witness, “[PS5] got dispatched today and has been on the way. Just tracked the driver and saw he was a couple of houses away on the map. Next thing the van rolls up, backs up to my drive then stops. The driver doesn’t get out, pauses for 10 seconds then drives away. The package then said “handed to the resident and delivered.” It seems like Amazon is facing some issues regarding the PS5 delivery, but have not yet acknowledged the case. It seems like most of the users will be getting a refund instead.

Ever since the pandemic started, Google Maps has been trying to bring new changes and features to their platform which could help the people detect areas where the effect of the pandemic has been the most. With so many improvements and additions, it became a lot easier for people to travel using their app and decide the route based on the areas where the Covid cases were less. The company has brought more improvement recently, which would give out more information about the place and the current status of pandemic there.

The updated feature will show more details related to the Covid cases and ideas about all-time detected cases in an area in case users plan to travel. The new feature will also show resources from authorities in the area. As per Google, “This is especially handy if you’re heading out of town and need to get up to speed about the local guidelines, testing sites, and restrictions in another city.” Last month, Google also released an update on the Maps platform which allowed people to have more details on the containment zones which were color-coded as per the severity and the number of cases in the area.

Similarly, this update will provide more information to the users, especially if they are planning to travel through a certain state. The app will direct users to less crowded areas and users will also be able to see real-time details about how crowded a bus, train, or subway line is. Apart from that Google is also adding the live status of takeout and delivery orders on Maps itself with wait times and delivery fees, and the ability to place orders from Google Maps

After the foldable phones made their way to the market, it was understandable that companies will be looking to create more devices where the screen is flexible and can be changed to various shapes. A few days back, news came that Samsung is working on a new rollable screen that is still in the prototype phase. Now, the details have come from the company Oppo which has created the Oppo X Rollable concept smartphone. This is one of a kind and the first phone of its type that could extend its default size display.

The company has not provided any kind of specific details regarding the smartphone, but it is confirmed that the screen has been made by Chinese manufacturer BOE. The Oppo X 2021 Rollable Concept rollable smartphone uses a rollable OLED panel which has a default size of 6.7 inches and can be extended to 7.4 inches. The information about the display maker of the phone was provided by Vice President, Li Xuezheng, also, the details were shared on Weibo.

Since the device is only a prototype and will not be available commercially, we can expect the company to work more on the new technology and come up with a new smartphone with a rollable screen next year. However, whatever the company has revealed, does seem to be very promising. The company did confirm that they had to face many challenges while creating it and components like a proprietary roll motor, a new back panel support structure and a redesign of internal circuitry for the OLED panel were not easy to make.

Oppo announces the new Find X3 series, featuring “Full-path Color Management System”, to make the image quality better

Oppo has been working on a new color management system in smartphones for a while now and it seems that the new system will be making its way to the upcoming smartphone Oppo Find X3 series, which is all set to launch early next year. The Full Path system covers everything from capturing images, storing them, and displaying them with full DCI-P3 gamut coverage and 10-bit color depth. The changes in the software will be perfectly integrated with the camera hardware of the phone, which will help to provide better colors and image quality when captured.

The company has adopted a new algorithm and hardware that preserve the fidelity of an image while performing multi-frame noise reduction, distortion correction, and “perceptual extreme super-resolution”. It is one of the similar techniques and technology that Sony has been working on for a long time. Unlike typical HDR, DOL captures multiple exposures simultaneously, which removes the need to correct for moving objects. Images after being captured, are stored in HEIF format and support 10-bit color depth, and produce smaller files to boot.

These types of images not only load faster but are also stable while they are being edited. Oppo will also be using the screen calibration procedure to bring the color accuracy to around 0.4 JNCD. Also, the company has been partnering up with Zhejiang University to develop tests and develop solutions that correct images for improved viewing by people with color blindness. This will help each user to calibrate the display as per their preferences.

Apple launched its new M1 chipsets a few days back which will be used to power their future lineups of Mac. initial results of the new Macbooks really surprised everyone as they provided enhanced user experience and much better performance when compared to the Macbooks that were powered by Intel Chipsets. All the data and details got people very excited due to which the new lineup of Macbook became one of the most popular and sought-after notebooks in the market. However, it seems that the new M1 chipset is also causing a new issue for the Macbook owners.

There seem to be unforeseen teething problems that only appear after some time in the new M1 powered Macbooks. However, it seems that the issue can only be resolved partially through software updates while the issue will still remain mostly in the hardware unless the next generation of Macbooks is launched. Many users have also made complaints that the new Macbook becomes unusable after the operating system is re-installed. However, is there a need to reset the new Macbook, which would lead to this issue?

YouTube video

The answer is yes, any mistake or changes that the user might have made or removal of bloatware and re-installing them back requires the user to reset the machine and re-install the operating system, which is very common. However, the restoration is actually making the machine unusable and turning it into a brick with no functions. The error message that users are getting is “An error occurred preparing the update. Failed to personalize the software update. Please try again.” Some have suggested a workaround where they can use the latest Configurator 2 tool to restore an unresponsive Apple Silicon Mac. However, Apple is currently aware of this issue and are working to provide a fix for the users.
