A few days back Zoom offered the users a free video calling feature without any restriction on Thanksgiving to help them connect with their loved ones on this special day. Now Microsoft Teams have made an announcement as per which Microsoft Tea support for web and desktop will be rolled out soon with all-day free video calls for everyone. Microsoft Teams for the web would allow the users to add up to 300 users at one time in a single video call session.

The web version would also not need someone to have a Microsoft account and can join the video call as a guest. As per Microsoft, this would become one of the easiest ways for someone to communicate with friends and family and talk to each other through video calls whenever they like. Due to the pandemic, Microsoft Teams was being used by both professionals and people to connect with everyone. Due to the release of this feature the company is expected to get more and more users on their platform this Thanksgiving.

It seems to be a great market strategy by Microsoft Teams after Zoom made the announcement for restriction-free calls for the users on ThanksGiving. Other companies like Google Meet have still not lifted the restriction for the users and it seems they can also be announcing a similar strategy before thanksgiving for the users to attract them on their platform. No matter, which company does it, the user seems to be having the advantage here.

In the last few months, many bigs have been reported on platforms like Instagram, Microsoft, and Facebook that could have led to a serious data breach and privacy issues for the users, but we’re already resolved when detected by a team of digital researchers. A new bug has now been announced in Facebook Messenger which could have allowed callers to connect audio calls without the callee’s knowledge or approval. The bug was found in the Messenger app on the Android platform but has already been fixed by Facebook.

The vulnerability was initially found during a security audit by Natalie Silvanovich, a researcher working for Google’s Project Zero security team. The bug report has been made public today and it mentions that the bug resides in the WebRTC protocol which is used by the Messenger app to support audio and video calls. Silvanovich, who is part of the research team mentioned that the problem resided in the Session Description Protocol (SDP), part of WebRTC. It handles session data for WebRTC connections, and Silvanovich discovered that an SDP message could be abused to auto-approve WebRTC connections without user interaction.

The details regarding the bug were reported to Facebook last month by the same team of researchers and it was patched by Facebook immediately through a patch sent through a server-side update to Messenger service. Facebook also awarded them a $60,000 bug bounty for reporting the issue which was donated to GiveWell by Google researchers, which is a non-profit coordinator for charity activities. As per the official statement from Facebook, “This report is among our three highest bug bounties at $60,000, which reflects its maximum potential impact.”

Apple has quietly accepted a major hardware flaw in the iPhone 12 series.

Apple’s iPhone 12 series has been selling like a hot cake for the company and they have already increased the production for the same by millions of more iPhone 12 units. However, it seems that there is a small hardware problem in the new iPhone which now Apple has quietly confirmed. As per the internal Apple document which has been leaked, the iPhone 12 smartphones are suffering from significant display issues like flickering, green and Gary glowing, and a variety of other lighting problems.

A few days back, reports came in for iPhone 12 mini users that they were unable to unlock the screen as it became unresponsive. Due to this, they had to swipe up multiple times without any success. Only when the phone was restarted, the unlock option used to work on the screen. It seems like this issue was also connected to the same problem. Now the surprising fact is that the internal Apple document has instructions for Authorized Service Providers, “to avoid servicing affected iPhones, at least for now.”

YouTube video

It seems that Apple will be trying to fix the issue using the software update first and later with the hardware service if software updates do not work. There is no timeline mentioned for the same in the document, neither has Apple made any announcements for it. However, the green tint problem also occurred in iPhone 11 which was resolved using the software update and also by replacing some units. With displays being one of the major upgrades, it is expected that the company will make sure that such display issues do not occur in the future.
